Reminder Focused Positive Psychiatry

Reminder-Focused Positive Psychiatry (RFPP), developed by Dr. Ahmadi, is an innovative evidence-based approach that focuses on addressing neurophysiologic changes of serious mental illness, using strength-based positive psychiatry intervention tailored to mitigate reactivity to trauma and loss reminders in response to triggering events, as well as related negative affectivity & cognition, avoidance, impulsivity, emotion dysregulation, harm behavior, personal and interpersonal conflicts. In RFPP, we focus on your strengths, positive biopsychosocial characteristics, and what’s working—rather than only what’s wrong. Our approach uses modules in self-compassion, treatment engagement, tolerance enhancement of reminders related to negative emotions, and management of reactivity to reminders w/wo related suicidality. RFPP promotes adaptive coping strategies to deal with distress, enhances emotion regulation and the ability to introspect, and develops positive emotion by expressing gratitude to self and others and through social connectedness. Our evidence-based RFPP, is associated with improvement of neurovascular function, reduction of inflammation, sustained reduction of core psychiatric symptoms, reactivity to reminders, enhanced social interactions & connectedness and improved long-term clinical outcome, especially in those with traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, suicidality or chronic stress. The long-term goal is not simply to “bounce back,” but to “bounce forward”—emerging from challenges with deeper insight, purpose, and self-efficacy
