The HPC formerly known as the standard plate count is a procedure for estimating the number of live Heterotrophic bacteria in water. It is used to measure the changes in water treatment and distribution or in swimming pools. It may also be used as a monitoring method for treatment efficiency in bottled water plants.
Sample submission
If the Heterotrophic Plate Count is desired, you may request a sample container from any of our health district offices during normal business hours. Request a bacteriological bottle and specify that you want a standard plate count or HPC. Submit the sample as soon after collection as possible. Samples must be received within 30 hours of sample collection and kept cool during transit.
